Blackfish (2013)

Back in 07' while I was working for Universal Orlando I found out that all employees received free admission to Sea World. I was super stoked to hear this since I hadn't been to a Sea World park for at least 10 years. While in the park a co-worker and I went down to the "Shamu" tank. I'll always remember how enormous that creature was and how it should not be in captivity. So when I heard about this film "Blackfish" I was interested exactly what aspects of Sea World they were going to get into. Boy, was I in for a ride.

The film starts off by going into the former trainers of Sea World and how they depicted the park before they worked there and how exactly they got their jobs there. It was shows the greatness in working for the park. This is the light hearted segment of the film. The film than goes back to 1970 where they were capturing the Orcas. Targeting the babies and most of the time killing other orcas that were stuck in the nets with them. As they were doing this, the whole Orca family would swim near by and just cry. One of the whale poachers talks about how this breaks his heart and he lost it at the time and how it was the worst thing he's ever done.

The whale they were capturing at the time was Tilikum, the whale the film revolves around. The first park he is transferred to is Sealand. A very small marine park in Canada. If you can even call it a park. All Sealand consisted of was three killer whales, Tilikum and two female whales. The female whales would gang up on Tilikum since he was untrained. At night they were put into a very small floating pen where Tilikum was hurt even worse. The talk about how this is how Tilikum's rage was built up.

On February 20th. 2001, Tilikum's first victim was trainer, Kelty Burn. There's no memorial or any talk in the news about how the orca killed her. Only that she drowned. This made the park shut down. Sea World stepped in and bought Tilikum from them. They mostly bought him as a breeder and told nothing about the attack to the trainers. They told them the female whales were to blame. There were subtle hints while working with him that he was dangerous. While filming a show Tilikum tried to grab a trainer into the water. The film was then called unusable and they were even brought to court about the incident. They just said Tilikum showed no signs of being aggressive and quickly shrugged it off.

I want to get more into this film but I suggest you all check it out. It is streaming for free on Netflix. While reading up about this film I read that the upcoming Pixar film, Finding Dory was in fact changed because of this documentary. This film is at time heartbreaking I will admit that. It definitely is worth a watch though.

Hello Followers/Friends/Fans,

I feel like I owe an apology for disappearing off the face of the Earth from this site. I've had a crazy past few years. After my last post some not so nice things took place and I gave up on a lot of hope towards people in general. I will not say what occurred because it's all in the past. I'm going to try and slowly come back to Horror Blogging when I can.

Thank you for whoever has stuck around and gave me hope for re-starting this whole thing again.

Vince N Stilts: Hollywood Publicist Controversy

Lately, I've been helping my roommate Vince Cusimano learn how to walk in stilts. On our walks we talk about different things and this time it was about the recent controversy following Ronnie Chasen's death. Ronni Chasen was a Hollywood Publicist that was killed November 16th of this year. She was shot multiple times in the chest at 12:30 AM. The death is very suspicious since it was so early and on the busy intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Whittier Avenue. To hear more about it click the video below and hear the story from Vince.

Things I'm Scared of: Part 1

Since I run a horror blog I thought it would be fun to talk about what scares me. If you're friends with me you'll know that I'm scared of a few things that a lot of people are scared of but some things are more random. Since most of you have never met me, let me tell you a few.

Chainsaws

Mostly just the ones at Halloween haunts like Halloween Horror Nights. I think I'm mainly scared of them because they're loud but I also have another theory. When I was a child my mom would play Zombies Ate My Neighbors a lot. In the game there's chainsaw wielding maniacs cutting through hedges. Something that has always stayed with me and freaked me out. I won't lie chainsaws are badass but I hate when they're anywhere close to me.

Ghosts

Sure a lot of people are scared of ghosts and I happen to be one of them. Strangely enough I love watching any ghost show I can. My first memories of being terrified of ghosts was hiding under a blanket watching Unsolved Mysteries as a kid.

War of the Worlds

This may be a different fear than most people. I am extremely scared of this movie. If the reality of this film ever took place I'd probably kill myself. Not only are the aliens in this movie terrifying but Tom Cruise is a crazy crazy man. I wouldn't want to be turned into dust and clothes or get the blood pumped out of me.

Epcot's Spaceship Earth

It's not so much the ride but the ball itself. Yeah I know it's weird but for a while I had a fear that it was actually going to start rolling. Hey, it could be Disney's secret weapon...but probably not.

Drinking Game: Ernest Scared Stupid

This is by far the best drinking game my roommate, Vince and I have played. It's great for parties or just hanging out with some buddies. No one can really hate this ridiculous movie. Anyways, here's the rules...

Drink Every Time:

Ernest fucks up
Someone says "Rimshot"
You see a doll
Ernest changes character
You see a troll
Bobby Tulip is on screen (he is a scary man)

If you really want to get wasted, drink every time Ernest makes a face. Honestly, that could be a drinking game on it's own.

And one again, drink responsibly

Paranormal Activity 2

On October 20th, my friend Andrea and I went to go see the free midnight screening of Paranormal Activity 2. I had won VIP tickets from bloody-disgusting the night before which meant we got to go in first. When we arrived at the Archlight in Hollywood, CA I was surprised at how many people were already in line. They had a DJ playing music that didn't see to appropriate for a horror movie but that was just my opinion. We picked up our tickets and got in line. The VIP line only had 4 people in it so far so we were pretty lucky.  Along with the VIP pass we received a free food voucher for a food truck that came later that night.

Through out the night they gave out free swag including t-shirts, paranormal activity DVDs, travel bags, a tote bag, and posters. They also had food give outs like cupcakes, candy, water and ice cream. We were given wrist bands with numbers for free giveaways for xboxs, ipads, and ipods. Sadly we didn't win any of those.

The highlight of my night before they let us into the theater was someone dressed up as a ghost (just a sheet) popping up randomly and scaring people. It was hilarious. If any one was wathcing the live stream on dread central I'm sure they saw it.

Finally, around 12 AM they let us into the theater and we finally experienced Paranormal Activity 2.

Overall I enjoyed Paranormal Activity 2. I am a fan of the first film even though most of my friends do no like it at all. I also agree that it is scarier than the first. The end I thought was kinda cheesy because you knew exactly what was going to happen with Kate. Anyways, that's my super short review of PA2.

Here are some of the pictures of the swag and food we received throughout the night:
